The Voice of Truth
Casting Your Cares Vs Carrying Them
Living in the center of trauma brought days of sadness and deep pain in my life. Those who walked the journey with me witnessed the toll of balancing hope and hopelessness as residual bombs exploded. It was in that setting I had a new coworker speak into my life.
He came in towards the end of the day and said he felt the Lord sent him with a message for me. It was a simple message without explanation. “You care too much.” I was shocked that this young “you don’t really even know me” guy would deliver such a message.
How did he know anything about my life? He didn’t! How could he come in and say that? He couldn’t! He didn’t know all the pain and sorrow. He didn’t know the challenges I was facing. He didn’t have the right to say this to me. But he did.
You see, he started with “I felt the Lord sent me with a message.” He didn’t embellish, but simply boldly told me what the Lord laid on his heart to say. He didn’t have to know me or my challenges, he was simply being obedient to God.
His simple “You care too much” took me on a journey as I wrestled with the message. The truth was I had placed too many cares on myself.
I Peter 5:6-7 says “Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” All these burdens were not mine to hold. All the problems were not mine to fix. It was mine to release to Him and allow Him to care for me!
I was wrapped up in being everything for everybody. I was fixing and doing for everybody. The truth was my love for those around me had become a weakness. It overwhelmed me and felt impossible. I needed to remember that it was His power that was made perfect in my weakness. I needed to care less and seek Him more.
Have you felt this way in the midst of your hard things? Have you tried to be everything for everybody? If so, maybe you too should take inventory and transfer the burden to God.
There is a difference in how you spend your limited energy when you release the fixing to Him!
NEXT STEPS:
- Ask the Lord to show you where you may be carrying burdens that are not yours to carry.
- Ask Him to help you transfer them to Him.
