DEEPER STILL: Week Twenty-One
Give Your Anxieties to Him
I Peter 5:7
“Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.”
Reflections
What does casting all your anxieties on God look like in your life?
Pause and read Daniel 3 through the lens of 1 Peter 5:7: “Cast all your anxieties on Him, because He cares for you.”
In Daniel 3, we find three specific moments where Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego demonstrate what it means to cast their cares on God:
1. Fear of Man
Nebuchadnezzar issued a decree that when the people heard music, they must fall down and worship a golden image (vv. 4–5, 10). Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refused to bow. They cast their cares on God, trusting that He could save them. Even when others shouted “malicious accusations” against them (v. 8), they remained faithful.
Do you have someone in your life who needs to hear truth in love, but you’re afraid of losing them?
Is there a family member who needs the gospel, but you’ve hesitated to share for fear of how others might react?
Are you a people pleaser, bound by self-imposed rules and expectations, afraid of rejection?
Give those anxieties to God, and rest in His freedom.
2. Fear of Personal Harm
Despite the threat of being thrown into the fiery furnace (v. 12), the three men chose to obey God. They acknowledged that God could save them, but even if He didn’t, they would not bow (vv. 16–17). They chose faith over fear—even in the face of extreme physical suffering.
Are you choosing to worship God even in the midst of deep physical or emotional pain?
…cancer?
…abuse or trauma?
…the loss of a child?
…chronic illness or grief?
Lay those burdens before God, and let Him carry the weight of your pain.
3. Fear of a “No” from God
Their faith wasn’t rooted in the outcome. “Even if He does not…” (v. 18) they said, “…we will not serve your gods.” They trusted God’s character more than His deliverance.
What if your trial doesn’t end soon?
What if the child doesn’t return?
What if the diagnosis doesn’t improve?
What if God chooses not to take away the trauma?
Give the “what ifs” to God, and rest in His peace—declaring, “Even if… I will trust Him.”
Have you cast your anxieties on God so fully that you can say,
“Even if God does not deliver me… still I will trust Him”?
Prayer
Lord, help me to give it all to You—my fears, my pain, and every “what if” that weighs on my heart. Remind me that You are trustworthy, even when I don’t understand the outcome. Let me feel Your peace in the midst of uncertainty, and help me to rest in Your presence, even when everything is not yet settled. Amen.
