DEEPER STILL: Week Nineteen

God’s Love is Boundless

Psalm 136

“His mercy endures forever.”

Reflections

How Deeply Do You Know God Loves You?

Where are you on the scale of knowing God’s love for you?

Some of us grew up with an image of God as primarily a God of judgment, chastisement, and vengeance. Our focus became measuring up so we wouldn’t face His wrath (Romans 6:23, 1 Thessalonians 5:2–3, Galatians 5:19–21). While Scripture does speak of God’s justice and holiness, have we lost sight of the fullness of His love?

Many of us were introduced to God’s love through John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son…” But somewhere along the way, our view of God may have shifted. Once saved, serving God became more about fear—fear of failing, fear of punishment, fear of not doing enough. And yes, God does discipline those He loves (Hebrews 12:6), and He will judge sin, but His love is not conditional, nor is it withdrawn when we stumble.

Have we truly grasped the extent of God’s love?

The Bible speaks overwhelmingly of His love:

  • God loved us while we were still sinners, separated from Him (Romans 5:8).

  • He loved us first—before we ever loved Him (1 John 4:19).

  • His love is everlasting (Jeremiah 31:3).

  • It endures forever (Psalm 136).

  • It never runs out and is rich in mercy (Ephesians 2:4–5).

  • It provides a way back to Him, through the sacrifice of His Son (John 14:6).

  • It is powerful enough to cast out fear (1 John 4:18).

  • Nothing can separate us from it—not even death (Romans 8:35–39).

  • His love is a refuge, unfailing, sustaining, and compassionate (Psalms 36:7; 40:11; 109:26; Isaiah 54:10).

  • He rejoices over you with singing (Zephaniah 3:17).

  • He draws you with lovingkindness, not shame (Jeremiah 31:3).

  • Through His Spirit, His love overflows into our hearts (Romans 5:5).

  • He delights in you and makes you more than a conqueror (Romans 8:37; Psalm 86:15).

God’s love is not a concept to just know—it’s a reality to experience.

Have you let the truth of God’s love move from your head to your heart? Or are you still guarded, quietly expecting His judgment instead of receiving His kindness?

It’s easy to believe He loves others—our moms, pastors, mentors, siblings, or friends. But have you believed this truth for yourself?

God loves YOU.
Right now. In this very moment. Personally and powerfully.

Have you let the fullness of that love sink deep into your heart?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for Your unfailing, abundant, and deeply personal love for me. Help me not just to know it in my mind, but to receive it fully in my heart. Remind me today that Your love is constant, not based on my performance, and that nothing can separate me from it. Let me walk in the freedom and goodness of that love today. Amen.
