DEEPER STILL: Week Thirty-Five

Seek God With Your Whole Heart

Proverbs 15:28

“The heart of the righteous studies how to answer, but the mouth of the wicked pours forth evil..”

Reflections

Why do we sometimes treat our prayer life like a social media highlight reel?

We speak to God using flowery words and polished petitions—yet moments later, we vent to our friends about how hard life feels. It’s as if we want to appear “put together” in front of the One who already knows the whole story.

God is not impressed by polished prayers—but He treasures honest communion. He invites us to come boldly, with our whole hearts (Heb. 4:16). This boldness isn’t arrogance—it’s authenticity. It means coming to Him with our needs, our brokenness, and our longings.

Wrestle for the Blessing
In Genesis 32:22–32, Jacob wasn’t casually asking for a blessing—he was desperate. He wrestled with God. And even when his hip was dislocated, he wouldn’t let go:
“I will not let You go unless You bless me!” (Gen. 32:26)

Jacob’s determination showed he wasn’t seeking a surface-level spiritual moment—he was seeking transformation. And he received it. God not only blessed him but gave him a new identity and purpose.

The Cry of the Apostle
Paul, writing from prison near the end of his life, expressed this deep longing:
“That I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death” (Phil. 3:10).

Paul didn’t crave comfort, reputation, or recognition—he craved communion. He wanted to know Christ—in both resurrection joy and suffering. He longed for relationship, not religion.

Our God: Exalted and Near
Our God is great and exalted:

Micah 5:2 — Eternal Ruler of Israel
Genesis 17:1 — El Shaddai, God Almighty
Revelation 22:13 — Alpha, Omega, Beginning, and End
Hebrews 4:14 — Our great High Priest

Yet He is also near:

Genesis 16:13 — El Roi, the God who sees
Matthew 11:19 — Jesus, sitting with the broken
Hebrews 4:15 — He sympathizes with our weaknesses

He’s not aloof. He is present, compassionate, and approachable. He understands our weariness. He sees our struggle to trust. He invites us to come closer.

God desires intimacy, not performance.
Honesty, not theatrics.

What does your prayer life reveal about your heart’s attitude toward God?

Prayer

When my conversations feel chaotic and confused, remind me that You are building something purposeful in me. Help me surrender every false narrative and lean fully into the truth of Your Word. Construct both my words and my life according to Your perfect design.
Amen.
