DEEPER STILL: Week Thirty-Three
Spiritual Wisdom Does Not Just Happen
Jeremiah 9:23–24
“Thus says the Lord: “Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom… but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the Lord.”
Reflections
There’s an old saying: “It takes two to tango.”
This idiom reminds us that both people involved in a situation carry responsibility—especially when conflict or distance arises.
When relationships fail or bring disappointment, we often blame the other person for not trying hard enough. But here’s the beautiful truth: in your relationship with God, He has already done all the work. Where humans fail, God never does.
The Work Is Finished
Jesus endured the cross and became the “perfecter” of our faith (Heb. 12:2). The word perfect here means “complete, finished, lacking nothing.” On the cross, Jesus didn’t leave anything undone. He didn’t say, “Now you do your part.” He said, “It is finished” (John 19:30).
Redemption is a completed work.
There’s nothing more to earn—only to receive (Rom. 6:23; Eph. 2:8–9).
God’s Love Is Not Like Human Love
God’s love is unlike any relationship we’ve experienced. He doesn’t grow tired. He doesn’t change His mind. He doesn’t disappoint.
He loved us first (1 John 4:19).
He knew us before we were born (Jer. 1:5).
He loves us sacrificially (John 3:16).
He is love (1 John 4:16).
His love is everlasting (Jer. 31:3).
He took our sin on Himself (1 Pet. 2:24)—because we never could (Isa. 64:6).
When Your Relationship Feels Distant
If your relationship with God feels dry or disconnected, the issue isn’t on His side.
He is faithful. He is present. He is constant.
So we must ask ourselves the hard questions:
Am I seeking Him with my whole heart? (Jer. 29:13)
Do I turn to His Word for direction? (Ps. 119:105; 2 Tim. 3:16–17)
Am I keeping His commandments? (John 14:23–24)
Am I praying and seeking His wisdom daily? (Matt. 6:9–13)
Does my life point others to Christ? (Matt. 5:16)
Is there fruit of the Spirit growing in me? (Gal. 5:22–23)
Time to Make the Effort
God already moved toward you. The cross proves it.
The question is: Are you drawing near to Him?
Are there places in your relationship with God that you’ve neglected?
Spiritual wisdom doesn’t just happen.
It grows when we intentionally seek, surrender, and walk with Him each day.
Take a moment today to reflect:
Where do you need to grow? What is the next step you can take?
Develop a plan.
Commit to the process.
And deepen your communion with the One who has already given you everything.
Prayer
Lord, we desire deeper communion with You. Identify weaknesses in my life and help me develop a plan to draw closer to You. Rid my heart of complacency in my walk with You.
