DEEPER STILL: Week Fifty-Two

Your Mission In These Moments

Galatians 6:9

“And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.”

Reflections

As we think about celebrating movement, it’s important to consider our mission even in the midst of pain. Do our hard circumstances mean we are merely meant to plod along and survive another day? Or could the upheaval in our lives be inviting us into something deeper than simply putting the pieces back together?

Today, as we ponder this, we turn to Paul’s instructions to the church in Galatia, “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart” (Gal. 6:9). These believers faced persecution from the outside, division from within, false teachers, and spiritual deception. And on top of that, because they lived in the same broken and dying world we do, they still faced sickness, family struggles, loss, and everyday heartache.

Sometimes our hurting hearts whisper that we are the only ones suffering or carrying such immense loss. But Scripture reminds us, “In this world you will have trouble…” (Jn. 16:33). Trouble is guaranteed. This is a weighty truth.

With spiritual eyes, even hardship becomes an invitation to celebrate God’s sustaining presence. As we walk through trials of every kind, keeping our eyes on the Lord, we can be assured, we will not be shaken (Ps. 16:8), He will never leave or forsake us (Heb. 13:5) and He is for us, not against us (Rom. 8:31). He sympathizes with our weaknesses and welcomes us near (Heb. 4:14–16).

Romans 12:11–12 calls us to live on mission—even in adversity—by choosing to:

–not lag in diligence,
–be fervent in spirit,
–serve the Lord,
–rejoice in hope,
–be patient in affliction, and
–continue steadfastly in prayer.

All this…even when we’re barely hanging on? Yes. Because as we draw near to Him, His Spirit strengthens ours (Romans 8:16). He gives us the capacity to endure, not by our power, but by His. And we can rejoice in hope and remain patient in suffering because we cry out to the One who has suffered for us and walks with us.

Where might God be inviting you to see movement—even small, hidden, or painful steps—as part of His mission and not merely your survival?

Prayer

Lord, give me eyes to see You in the midst of pain and sorrow. Help me identify my mission that aligns with Your calling–for such a time as this.
