DEEPER STILL: Week Forty-Five

His Spirit In Us

Psalm 143:10

“Teach me to do Your will, For You are my God; Your Spirit is good. Lead me in the land of uprightness.”

Reflections

In the midst of trauma and despair, we often long for our spirit to be renewed. We dream of the days when the burden was not so great. We long to remember how to laugh wholeheartedly—without that sense of emptiness engulfing us. We want a lighter spirit of joy, yet sometimes we drown in an ocean of overwhelm.

When burdens are heavy, Jesus says: “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” (Matt. 11:28–30)

When emptiness engulfs us, Jesus reminds: “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?” (Matt. 16:24–26)

And when we feel as if we are drowning in an ocean of overwhelm, God assures us: “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.” (Is. 43:2a)

In all of these Scriptures, we see the same truth: the presence of God in our lives—our focus on and surrender to Him—makes all the difference. Our burdens, emptiness, and overwhelm can find buoyancy as we lean into the power of God’s Spirit within us.

The reality is this: remembering God changes everything. It assures:

  • He is with us always. (Matt. 28:20)
  • His Spirit indwells us. (Jn. 14:16–17)
  • We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. (Phil. 4:13)

So we encourage you today to overcome the despair by:

  • Internalize the Scriptures above.
  • Recognizing the need for a Savior—not just for eternity’s sake—but for the burden-sharing of this life.
  • Leaning into truth: He is with you. His Spirit indwells you. His power overcomes.

Take a few honest moments today to reflect:
Are you trusting God to do what you cannot do? Relinquish control, walk in faith, believing He can.

Prayer
